OAKLAND - Shirley A. Ellis 83, died Oct. 7, 2006, at Oak Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center in Waterville. She was born in Albion, March 23, 1923, the daughter of Silas and Lizzie (Dow) Cookson. Shirley was a graduate of Bessie High School in Albion and attended Farmington Normal School.
Shirley was a spinner at Edwards Manufacturing in Augusta for more than 20 years. For more than 50 years, she was a resident of Oakland, where she enjoyed gardening.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Edwin Pottle, her second husband, Edward Ellis, a brother, John Cookson, and three sisters, Elsie Wilson, Dora Blaisdell and
Lewona Willette.
Surviving are three sons, Edward Ellis Jr. of North Anson, Arthur Ellis of Waterville and Fred Pottle of Benton; two daughters, Carla Ellis O'Clair of Hillsboro, N.H., and Barbara Richards of Clinton.; two brothers, Robert Cookson of Brooks and Mayo Cookson of Albion; two sisters, Beverly Webber of Elliott and Faye Pottle of Benton; 13 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and
nephews.
Friends are invited to visit 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St Oakland, where a funeral service will be at 10 a.m.
