Uncle Dick was the oldest of 9 children and was always a kind and helpful big brother. He was a man of impeccable character. He was a wonderful Christian and was held in high esteem by all who knew him. He was injured in a train accident when just 17 years of age, losing both legs. But being the strong man that he was, he used his misfortune to help others in similar need. He had a wonderful sense of service to others and was known for his kindness and gentleness.

On a recent visit back to Paris and Marshall, IL, a lady at the Marshall Genealogical Library told me that she knew Richard Vaughn, as he had helped her mother who was disabled for years. She wanted to know if I was related to him, so I got to brag and say, "Yes, he was my Uncle, my Dad's brother." She said he was the most wonderful person. Everyone loved him. What a testament to him and how he saw others.

He is greatly missed by his family and friends.
