Gilbert Bain
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, at Lane Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home in Eugene for Gilbert Bain of Creswell, who died Sept. 11, 2009, of age-related causes. He was 89. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17, at the funeral home.
He was born Feb. 15, 1920, in Oakwood, Okla. to Lloyd and Effie Cline Bain. He married Josephine Steinborn on Aug. 23, 1943 in Eugene. She died in 1986. He married Shirley Martin on July 1, 1988 in Creswell. She died in 2005.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked at Cone Lumber Company in Goshen for 30 years. In retirement, he did carpentry and built furniture.
Survivors include: three daughters, Sondra Bain and Wanda Edwards of Oregon and Rose Winters of Alaska; four sons, Rex Bain of Alaska, Don Bain of Texas, Mike Bain of Oklahoma and Leon Bain of Oregon; 18 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A grandson, Robbie Hansen, died in 1981.
Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17. Burial will take place at Lane Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be sent to Oregon Lions Eye Bank. Lane Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
