Col Mark Brooke died in Walter Reed General Hospital.During the war he commanded for several months the Thirty-third Regiment of Engineers at Brest.He was one of the army engineering officers who worked of the Panama Canal.Born in Columbia,South Carolina on August 27,he graduated from Harverford College and from the United States Military Academy in 1902.Stationed in Panama in 1903 and 1904 at at Camp Columbia,Cuba,in 1907.He then became assistant instructor of practical military engineering at West Point.Before the United States entered the World War he was in the Philippine Islands for two years.From July 12,1918,to July 31,1919,after relinquishing command of the Thirty-third Engineers,he was section engineer in charge of construction of wharves,docks,railroads,water supply aystem and camps in and around Brest.After the war he was instruetor of the Command and General Staff School,a member of the general staff and division engineer for the Gulf at New Orleans.he retired in 1932.A graduate of the School of the Line,General Staff School and the Army War College.
