Ensign, US Navy, March 24, 1917, served in the position of assistant paymaster. He was promoted, Lieutenant JG and discharged from the service in 1919.

April 4, 1922, he enlisted in Troop A, 51st Machine Gun Squadron ( Squadron A ), NYNG, in New York City. He was discharged from the 51st Machine Gun Squadron, in 1925.
