DAY RAVENSCROFT OBITUARY

Day Ely Ravenscroft Constance Day Ely was born September 20, 1928, into a fortunate and extraordinary family that was devoted to the service of God and the healing of the world. Her parents, Albert Heman "Jack" Ely, Jr., and Constance Jennings Ely, spent all their time, talent, and resources working with Moral Re-Armament, which called on individuals to experience spiritual transformation, to seek God's guidance daily, and to become His instruments for the creation of a better world. Day grew up to devote her life to God through MRA as well, and traveled the world in service. In 1967, she married Jackson P. Ravenscroft, who had joined the Up With People team. They thoroughly enjoyed each other's company and shared many happy adventures until his death in 2008. Their daughter, Virginia, was born in Tucson in 1971. They raised her with this same ethic of loving and changing the world. In recent years, Day devoted herself to her parish of St. Odilia and to grassroots organizing for social justice via the Pima County Interfaith Council. Day has always been an extraordinary friend and mentor to many people. She was a unique and compelling person, forthright, constant and true, energetic and enthusiastic, and deeply compassionate toward all suffering. Day was eager to share her story and her family's, to inspire and encourage others; please request copies of Matched Pair (C.J. Harriman's biography of her parents), and Day by Day (her 2011 memoir). She asked us to pass on these final words: "I enjoyed living, but was blessed by God through my parents with a total freedom from fear of being dead: I look forward to new and interesting adventures in the future. How grateful to God I am to have known and lived with my husband, our daughter and Marvin; my sister, Florence and Rebekah Ravenscroft-Scott. It's a happy band of friends, my family, and that includes those who went before me and my extended family, both my relatives near and far and all those who have worked with me. I pray God's blessing on you all, and on all whom you love." We may feel that a great light has gone out of our lives, but she is with us whenever we further the task to which she devoted her life: bringing people together in love to create a better world. In lieu of flowers please consider the Pima County Interfaith Council or the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Mass will be held Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Odilia's, 7570 N. Paseo Del Norte, Tucson. Instead of a reception at this time, a large Celebration will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
