David A. Bayer, 63, of Muenster died March 4 in Dallas.
Mass of Christian Burial was held March 8 at Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Ken Robinson celebrating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of the McCoy Funeral Home of Muenster. Pallbearers were Wayne Grewing, Wayne Wimmer, Joel Bayer, Neil Bayer, Adam Bayer and Matthew Grewing. Honorary Pallbearers were grandchildren, Hannah Bayer, Chandler Herr, Landrie Herr, Addison Herr, Macy Bayer and Maverick Bayer. David A. Bayer was born July 29, 1946 in Gainesville to Martin and Louise Walterscheid Bayer. He was raised on a farm near Muenster and graduated from Sacred Heart School. He was drafted into the United States Army 25th Infantry Division at an early age and served two years in Vietnam as a squadron leader. David A. Bayer was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Church in Muenster and sang in the choir. After his tour in the Army, he went back to school part time and farmed with his twin brother Dale. He then started carpentry and did that off and on for a large portion of his life. He went to work at Valenite in 1975 and worked there for 23 years. He also ran a farm and operated a tree machine. David A. Bayer enjoyed nature and planted many trees in the Cooke County area, including several on the grounds at Sacred Heart Church. He enjoyed sports, fishing, hunting and observing nature.

Bayer is survived by his mother, Louise Bayer of Muenster; daughters and sons-in-law, Melanie and Doug Herr of Gainesville and Deann and Bob Tidwell of Gainesville; son, Ryan Bayer of Muenster, Matthew Bayer of Muenster and Michael Bayer of Muenster; son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Holly Bayer of Lindsay; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Ken Otto of Tulsa, Okla.; sister, Nelda Bayer and special friend Lynn Van Meter of Dallas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Sylvia Bayer of Gainesville, Don and Barbara Bayer of Waco, Tom and Joyce Bayer of Muenster and Bill and Annette Bayer of Muenster; grandchildren, Hannah Bayer, Chandler Herr, Landrie Herr, Addison Herr, Macy Bayer, Maverick Bayer and Halston Tidwell; and longtime companion, Janice Bayer of Muenster.
He was preceded in death by his father, Martin Bayer; and brother, Ernest Bayer.
