Frances Rebecca Gary was born on 1 September 1841 in Lowndes County, Alabama, to William Leonidis Gary and Frances Elizabeth Satterwhite. She married Colonel Robert Haden Abercrombie on 11 January 1860. They lived in Macon County, Alabama. Col Abercrombie was wounded in action during the Civil War and later practiced law. Their children were Robert, Frances, Annie, Newton, Robert, and Thomas Abercrombie. None of their sons lived to adulthood. Frances Gary Abercrombie died, 27 November 1912, aged 71, and was buried at Tuskegee City Cemetery in Tuskegee, Alabama.
