LYLE PIONEER IS CLAIMED BY DEATH

Identified with progress of Lyle Village.

News reached Lyle Monday afternoon that John Bergeson, one of the oldest and best known men of the community had passed away that morning in his beautiful country home, six miles west of Lyle. Mr. Bergeson had not been in the best of health for several years but was able to be around until a few hours prior to his death. About the middle of last week he contracted a severe cold and pneumonia followed.

Few men have been more intimately identified with the progress, up building and welfare of their community. His home was the scene of many festivities and was the meeting place of friends and neighbors. He took a great interest in politics and for years devoted much time to the different campaigns.

When the Lyle Telephone Company was organized John Bergeson was one of the incorporators and served on the board of directors for a number of years. He was a veteran of the Civil War and a firm believer in the principles of the government.

Five years ago last July Mr. and Mrs. Bergeson celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, at which time many of their old friends from far and near paid their respects to the worthy couple.

John Bergeson was born in Norway, October 14, 1846, and when but three years of age came to America with his parents, Andrew Bergeson and Anne Johnson Bergeson, and resided in Columbia County, Wisconsin, until 1855, when they came to Minnesota. Mr. Bergeson served in Company B of the First Minnesota Heavy Artillery during the Civil War and was a charter member of the Northwood G.A.R. On July 11, 1866, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Swenson of Lyle and resided near here until 1875 when he moved to his recent home.

Their children were Mary Bergeson Martin, Ella Bergeson Rhone, Svend Bergeson, Adeline Bergeson, Adeline Bergeson Gran, Aase Bergeson Birkeland, Jeanette Bergeson Hanson, Clara Bergeson Hendrikson, Almer Bergeson, Laura Bergeson Leidal and John Bergeson. The funeral was held Friday morning at 10:00 o'clock, internment being made in the Six Mile Grove Cemetery.
