James Galbreath was born in Nicholas Co KY to William and Phebe Foreman Galbreath, the youngest son of 8. Later the family removed to Scott County IN. In 1833, James brought his parents to Ashmore, Coles county IL where his brother William Hunter Galbreath had came in 1830.
On May 2, 1839 he married Martha Houston Mitchell at the home of her parents NW of Ashmore IL.
Martha and James had 13 children, 12 lived to adulthood.
