William Galbreath was born in Straban Township, York PA (now Adams) to John and Mary Ann Galbreath.
William was the oldest child (as evidence of John's will from 1809 Westmoreland PA). He had the following siblings: Hannah, Andrew, John, Ann, Mary Ann, James, and Elizabeth.
William served 7 years in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War at the rank of Sergeant.
He met Phebe Foreman at a party held for Gen George Washington by her Uncle. They were married in Philadelphia PA at the Old Pine St 3rd Presbyterian Church on March 27, 1788 by Rev George Duffield. Duffield was the Chaplain to the Continental Congress and the PA Militia.
They removed to Nicholas Co KY then to Scott Co IN. They were parents of Fannie Rebecca, Mary Ann, John, Sarah, Phoebe, William Hunter, Robert and James.
In 1830 several of the children including William Hunter moved to Coles Co IL. in 1833 the youngest son, James brought his parents to Coles Co. IL.
William died the day after his youngest son, James was married on May 3, 1839.

If you are a descendant you are eligible to join the DAR and SAR. To this day his family gathers in Ashmore IL. for an annual reunion the 3rd Sunday of July.
