Mass of Christian Burial will 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sauk Rapids for Ervin Blattner, age 96 of 415 8th Ave. S. Sauk Rapids, who died Saturday at Country Manor Health Care Center in Sartell after a courageous battle with cancer. Rev. Ronald Weyrens will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. Monday at Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Sauk Rapids and one hour prior to the services Tuesday at the church in Sauk Rapids. Holy Name Society (Mens Club) will pray at 6:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Sauk Rapids.
Erv was born June 22, 1911 in St. Cloud to D.H. "Henry" & Clara (Herbst) Blattner. He married Cecilia "Ceil" Hadersbeck on July 25, 1932 at Holy Angels Catholic Church, St. Cloud. Ervin's working years were with D.H. Blattner & Sons in Avon which he owned with his brothers William and Kenneth and was Vice President. They built roads, interstates and the Alaskan Highway. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Sacred Heart Mens Club, Sacred Heart Cemetery Board, Sauk Rapids Sportsmans Club and Minnesota Contractors Association. Ervin has been a Sauk Rapids Lions member since 1965 and received the Melvin Jones Award. He served on the Sauk Rapids Develop-ment Board from 1979-1990, Sauk Rapids City Council from 1974-1980 and Sauk Rapids HRA Chairman from 1981-1991. Ervin received the Sauk Rapids Citizen of the Year award in 1992.
Survivors include his daughter, Betty (James) Reller and their children, Lorie Reller (Scott Grefe) and Peter, Pam (Kelly) Haugen and Sarah and Andrew, Jill (Jim) Vranesh and Nicholas, Alison and Emily, Dean Reller; Son, David H., Sr, (Clara) Blattner and their children, Cheri (John) Nelson and Justin, Kimberly and Jacob, David H, Jr. (Karen) Blattner and Celia,David H. IV, Brady, Russell (Paula) Blattner and Alex, Claire and Nicholas; and brother, Harold & Mary Blattner.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ceil on March 31, 1991; brothers, William and Kenneth; sister, Lucille Witte-Larson and grandson, Donald Blattner.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Cloud Hospital Hospice.
