The body of John W. Gooch recovered from the waters of the Tennessee River Wednesday at 3:05 pm.
Gooch had fallen from the boat Wednesday at about 5:40 am after it had struck a log in the channel at the mouth of the Blue Water Creek. The creek enters Wilson Lake about 2 miles below Wheeler Dam.
Six boats were at the scene Wednesday dragging for the body.
John Wiley Bulter was reported to be operating the boat when the accident happened. Butler was saved by an unidentified person.
Gooch, a native of Lauderdale CO., was a member of the church of Christ and a veteran of WWII. He had been employed in Detroit before returning to the county.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10 am at Elgin Cross Roads church of christ with Royce Kretzer officiating.
Burial will be in Butler Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife Mrs. Alma Butler Gooch, 2 sons Ronald Lloyd, Richard David Gooch, his father and mother Mr. and Mrs. John W. Gooch Sr. Guin, 3 brothers J.B. Gooch Florence, James Walker, and Albert both of Detroit, 2 sisters Mrs. Frances Whitt and Mrs. Gertrude Amburgey both of Taylor, MI.
