Broadway, May 4.
The funeral of Mrs. Mary E. Bear, whose death occurred Tuesday at the home of her son, Mr. Chas. E Bear, near this place, was held at the Methodist church yesterday at 2:30 o'clock in presence of a large assemblage of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Bear leaves five children, all of whom were present: Frank Bear, of Philadelphia; Leonard Bear, of Raleigh, N. C.; Mrs. Cornelia Armentrout, of Roanoke; Mrs. Lucy Armentrout, of North Carolina; and C. E. Bear, of this place.
She was a sister of ex-Senator John Acker, and Messrs. Isaac and Chas. Acker, of this county, who were present at the funeral. One sister, Mrs Cunningham of Chicago, was with her the last few days of her sickness.
The deceased was an invalid for a long time, and had passed through many days of pain. For many years she was a consistent member of the Methodist church, and died in the hope of a peaceful rest after her years of suffering.
The services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. J. Rinker, who preached a forceful sermon on the final resurrection, after which her body was laid to rest in Linville Creek cemetery.
The pall bearers were, Messrs. B. F. Helbert, Jos. Garber, D. D. Pennybacker, John M. Rhodes, Chas. Readmer and C. H. Cross.
Deceased was sixty-four years of age.
