Ashby Richard Short, 79, died Friday, May 28, 1965, at 5:10 p.m. at his home on Route 2 in Stanley. Mr. Short had been in ill health for the past year.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 1, at 2 p.m. from the Adventist Church with Elder Paul Schooley officiating. Interment was in the Adventist Cemetery.

Born March 22, 1886 in Stanley he was a son of the late John and Virginia Painter Short. He was a member of the Stanley Baptist Church.

He had formerly been employed as a general laborer.

Mr. Short was twice married. Both his first wife, the former Miss Bertha Blosser, and his second wife, the former Miss Annie Blosser, preceded him in death.

He is survived by eight sons, Earl Short, of Federalsburg, Maryland; Russell and Mitchell Short, of Baltimore, Maryland; Jack Short, of Hagerstown, Maryland; Fred Short, of California; Homer, Bennie and Page Short, of Stanley; two daughters, Mrs. Maggie Good, of Stanley, and Mrs. Mary Collins, of Florida; 19 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; one brother, Ed Short, of Stanley, and one sister, Mrs. Rose Higgs, of Stanley.

One daughter preceded him in death.
