Jesus was educated at St Louis University in St Louis, MO in 1859/1862. He was Treasurer of Dona Ana County, NM in 1875. He was a land owner and railroad promoter in Albuquerque, NM in 1880. He served in the New Mexico Territory House of Representatives in 1879 and again in 1893.
He married Maria de Los Angeles Samaniego, the daughter of Bartlolo Samaniego and Isabel Luna Samaniego, on 28 Feb 1870 in Las Cruces, NM. They had eight children, Josephine Candelaria, Leonardo, Isabel, Ambrosio Vicente, Matilde, Maria Laura, Santiago, and Ricardo. He and his family attended the Columbian Exposition in Chicago, IL in 1893 and stayed in Chicago for six years before making their home in Prescott, AZ.
