Following written by daughter Ida Louise Simons, Groff the 30th day of April year 1994. She was in Austin, Travis County, Texas to research her family heritage. This trip she went to research the Simons line. She took the time from a very busy schedule to reminisce.

My Dad Lee Simons was a very strong willed man. He expected all his children to show respect and kept us each one in line with a stern hand. He could be quite relentless at times.

I remember as a young child that my Mom would go with Dad wherever he'd go. She was always with him. Dad would take us fishing and she'd be right there with her sharp eyes right on us kids. Dad would bait our hooks and get us all started fishing and then he'd take a nap. Those were fun times for all of us.

As we all got old enough to get drivers license, Dad would help us get cars, and he would help us to keep them maintained. He was always there when we needed him.

Dad seemed more comfortable with his sons than us girls, but he was there for each of us, girl or boy. The boys were the first to leave the nest, getting married or going into the service. That left us girls.

There was a time, (about 1952 or 1953), when Dad got real sick with near kidney failure. He was hospitalized for many months. His mother Ida Toungate came to stay with us children. That allowed Mom to be with Dad to bring him safely home to us. Grandma asked us to pray for our Daddy and ask Jesus to watch over him and to bring him home. He did come home for a very happy reunion with all us kids.

Dad enjoyed his family reunions alot. These were held at the Oak Grove Cemetery for a joyous gathering of our kin. He and Mom prepared for the three day event that was held on July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th many weeks ahead. They both worked very hard to make this special time with family a joyous time to long be remembered.

We kids enjoyed going to Oak Grove and visiting with all the relatives. We would all take a dip in the creek. As we got older we quit swimming and began helping the others prepare the food and clean up the cemetery afterwards.

My Dad now lies at peace in the Oak Grove Cemetery. He is "Home".
