Frances H. Boyd, age 96, of 596 Borland Road, Sandy Lake, PA, died at 715 a.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010, in St. Paul's of natural causes.
Born March 12, 1913, in Ellwood City, PA, she was a daughter of John D. and Anna Lynnie Wiegel Hayden. Frances graduated in 1931 as Class Valedictorian of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City and had later also attended New Castle Business College. She worked for over 29 years at the Cooper-Bessemer of Grove City in the order department, retiring in 1976.
She had been a very active member of the Lakeview United Methodist Church. For over 50 years Frances taught Sunday School in the Ellwood City, Stoneboro and Lakeview United Methodist Churches.
She was Past Worthy Matron of Stoneboro Chapter 110, Order of the Eastern Star and also served as a District Deputy. Frances was active with the Girls Scouts of Ellwood City and was named the first First Class Girl Scout. She was a member of the Lakeview Monday Music Club. She was inducted into the Mercer County Voter Hall of Fame in 2001. She enjoyed playing cards and in later years taking many bus trips.
Frances married William B. Boyd June 3, 1931 and he preceded her in death July 23, 1993.
Survivors include a daughter Nina Jane Nosker and husband Jim of Sandy Lake, PA; three grandchildren Linda Coon and husband Dan of Easton, PA; Terrie Marrapese and husband Frank of Adamsville, PA and Dennis Nosker and wife Tarin of Dubois, PA; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; one sister Patricia Rossman of Ellwood City, and a sister-in-law Daisy Hayden of Ellwood City.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, five sisters and four brothers.

Calling hours will be held today, February 2, 2010, from 10 to 1045 a.m. in the Lakeview United Methodist Church, 1472 School Road, Sandy Lake, PA. Funeral and committal service will be today, February 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. James G. Young, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
