Ruth Hurst March 5, 1938 - February 21, 2010 Ruth Hurst, maiden name Ruth Rowland, was born in Sadie, Oklahoma on March 5, 1938. She came to California in 1944 with her siblings and parents, Perry and Mary Rowland. She grew up in Richgrove and attended school in both Richgrove and Delano. She married Dillard Hurst, son of Wilburn and Alice Hurst, in June of 1958. She remained with Dillard until his passing in 1997.
Many people remember Ruth from her 27 years working at Thrifty Drug Store in Delano. She was a dedicated employee and was known for her fun loving, cheerful personality by many customers. She enjoyed her work and being surrounded by her children and family. She met our Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2010.
Ruth is survived by four of her 10 siblings and her four children. Brothers, Wayne Rowland of Sun City, Arizona; Watie Rowland of Pioneer, California; Donald Rowland of Visalia, California; and sister, Edna Sneed of Delano, California. Ruth's four children are Vicki Poulton, Rhonda Law, Rita Hurst, and Brian Hurst. Her family is extended by her six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services in honor of Ruth will be held graveside at Delano Cemetery, 625 Austin Street on Monday, March 1st, at 11:00 a.m. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the American Legion, in Delano, at 729 Kensington Street. www.bakersfield.com/obits
