He married Olive Allen on Nov. 10, 1941 in Vernal. Their marriage was later solemnized in Salt Lake City Temple. Olive passed away on May 7, 1993. He married Ardith Morrill Abegglen on Jan. 15, 1994 in Ogden.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Bishop, Stake Patriarch, and Temple Sealer in the Vernal Temple. He and Ardith also served a LDS mission in the History Center, Salt Lake City.
Garth homesteaded and farmed in Acequia, Minidoka County, Idaho. In 1970, he moved back to Vernal where he worked at Basin Loans until retirement. Garth was active in the community. He served on the Uintah County School Board and was involved with the Republican Party.
Garth is survived by his wife, Ardith; sister, Arva Abegglen (Clark), Vernal; son, Curtis (Marlene) Vernal; daughters, Beverly Jolley (Ronald) Arimo, Idaho, Shirlee Gibbons (Dean) Boise, Idaho, Barbara Clezie (Lane), and Mary Deeb (George) of Pocatello, Idaho, DeLlyn Nielson (David) Salt Lake City; step-children Robert McClellan, Sugar Land, Texas, Valarie Dinkel (Brad), Genola, Utah, Brad McClellan (Carol), Gary McClellan (Linda) and Clark McClellan (Robin) of Vernal, Jeffery McClellan (Kris), Lindon, Utah; 46 grandchildren; 113 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Olive; his mother and father; step-father James Arch McConkie; and brothers Curtis Glen, Reed and Chesley.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Feb. 26, at 11 a.m. at the Ashley/Maeser chapel under the direction of Bishop Gary McClellan, Maeser 4th ward. A viewing will be held at the Mortuary on Feb. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services at the church house on Feb. 26.
Interment in the Maeser-Fairview cemetery under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
