Bamberg - Mattie Davis Smith Furtick, 70, of 122 Village Court, Bamberg, formerly of Springfield, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at Health South, Columbia. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at First Baptist Church of Springfield, with the Rev. Steven Gant officiating. Mrs. Furtick was born Feb. 11, 1935, in Norway, a daughter of the late Arthur Wells Davis and the late Lou Ella Davis Davis. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Springfield and was retired from Delevan. She was a member of the John V. Williams Sunday School Class, church choir, Springfield Garden Club and Edisto Singers. She was married to the late Oswald Kennerly Furtick and formerly to Richard Able Smith. Mrs. Furtick was predeceased by one sister, Mozelle D. Bowen. Survivors include one brother, C.H. "Tom" Davis and wife, Daisy, of Bamberg; four stepsons, Edward and Kathy Furtick, Walter and Glenda Furtick, both of Springfield, Bob Furtick of Dallas, Texas and Kenny and Mary Furtick of New Orleans, La.; three stepdaughters, Missey and Frank Oley of Ogden, Utah, JoAnne and Paul Cousins of Monroe, N.C., and Barbara and Carroll Holloway of Hickory, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends at the residence of Tom and Daisy Davis, 256 Sunset Drive, Bamberg.
