Son of James T. Jamison and Mary C. Ritchey. He married Clara V. Cessna on 22 feb 1898; they were the parents of 1 child (Mary Lyndall).

James was a schoolteacher and later an assistant principal in Bedford co. schools. About 1900, he and Clara moved to Johnstown, PA, where he was principal of the Coopersdale School. James had been ill for months (heart disease), and was at the Cessna family home in the Cumberland Valley (in the hopes that some time in the county would benefit him) when he died in 1903.

He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and of the Masonic Lodge at Hyndman.
