Funeral services for Willie Charles Duckworth of Mendenhall were held Sunday afternoon from the Mims Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel in Magee with Rev. Lawrence Smith and Rev. Terry Howard officiating. Interment was in the Goodwater cemetery with Mims Mitchell Funeral Home in charge.
Mr. DucKwortn, 70 years old, died last Friday at Simpson General Hospital after having been in failing health for several years.
A native of Jones County, Mr. Duckworth lived for many years in the Oak Grove community and for the past few years had lived in Mendenhall. He was well known throughout Simpson County, having served three terms as Tax Assessor and also a deputy sheriff. He had also been a prominent farmer and was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Mendenhall.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Clara Duckworth, Mendenhall; seven sons, A. W. and W. C. Duckworth, Jr., both of Mendenhall, B. R. Duckworth of Monticello, Joseph W. Duckworth of Florence, Ala., Lester C. Duckworth of Amsterdam, Holland, A. F. Duckworth of Pearl, and Alton J. Duckworth of Independence, Ky.; six daughters, Mrs. Ruby Grace Hemphill and Mrs. Wllda Lou Shofner, both of Jackson, Mrs. Dorothy Faye Dean of Magee, Mrs. Sue Scarborough of Jackson, Mrs. Myrtle Polon Chalk of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Mrs. Linda Galloway of Charlotte, S. C; seven stepchildren, Joe Wayne Blount, Delmas Blount, Sammy Blount and Cletus Blount, all of Mendenhall, Kenneth E. Blount of Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Herbert Ray Hyman and Mrs. Wayne Jones, both of Vicksburg; four sisters, Mrs. Susie Whetstone, Mrs. Bertie Layton and Mrs. Anna Grubbs, all of Magee, and Mrs. Ruby Roberts of Jackson; one brother, Mel Duckworth of Magee; 26 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
