Lucius was among the first to enlist
as a Volunteer, This enlistment merged
into one for the duration of the war.
US Army Civil War Veteran,
In 1861 enlisted in Company I Illinois
Volunteer 12th Infantry, Serving Under
General Grant's command. Lucius fought
at Donaldson and Shiloh gradually increasing
in rank's . When Langworthy's three years of
service ended, He re-enlisted On 11-April-1865
He was promoted to a full 2nd Lieutenant and
had been transferred to Sherman's command and
Company J of the Illinois Volunteer 12th Infantry.
Langworthy's participated and commanded, In Sherman's
March to the Sea and covered the entire distance on foot,
As did the men he commanded. Langworthy mustered out
of the Union on 10-July1865. He received his discharged
papers at Louisville Kentucky, after particpating in the
Grand Review at Washington D.C.
And remained in Bureau Co. until 1895 where the Iowa
State Census shows his residence.
