Daniel was the son of Henry Leverying and Ann Wynn. He moved with his parents from New Jersey to Bedford Co., PA in 1785. About 1788 he married Mary Karney in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
They were prominent members of the Presbyterian Church. They had 8 children, 7 of them boys, that were all born in Belfast Township, Bedford Co., PA. They named their children: Grace, Henry, Charles, Nathan, John, William, Noah and Joseph Levering
He, with his brothers and others, visited Knox County, Ohio, as now organized, in the year 1811, prospecting for future homes.
He made original purchase from the government of a large area of land in what has become the famous Owl Creek Valley, to which he removed his family from Pennsylvania in 1813, and upon which he died in 1820.
His widow followed in 1846 - aged 84 years. Both were buried in what has become an extensive Family Burial Ground at Levering, Knox County, Ohio.
