William Madison "Will" Jernigan was born February 8th, 1874 and the third child born to Stephen Decatur Jernigan and Mary Jane Skipper. His parents were born in Alabama. During the early 1870's there were many families that moved westward. The Jernigan/Skipper/Johnson families were part of this move.

Will was the first child born in Overton, Rusk County Texas. Will's older sisters, Martha and Stella were born in Alabama.

Will married Grace Edith Griffin December 11, 1898 in Overton, Rusk county, Texas. He worked as a farmer and lumberman. The 1930 census shows Will is the owner of a saw mill. Will died of Bright's disease January 3rd, 1931 in Kilgore, Gregg County Texas. (Source: Texas Death Certificate)
