Ira Lonis
Ira Franklin Lonis, the only child of Ellen Sawyer Lonis and Amos Lonis was born near Coatsville, Mo., on April 1, 1896, and departed this life on November 29, 1972, at the Grim Smith Hospital in Kirksville, Mo., at the age of 76 years, seven months and 29 days.
He was united in marriage to Edna Veatch on July 10, 1918 and to this union two daughters were born, Velma Welch of Lancaster and Ruth Current of Downing.
He accepted Christ in his early years and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Church.
He served his country during World War I.
He owned and operated a farm near Coatsville, Mo., for 53 years and was never happier than when working and caring for the farm or livestock.
He loved to till the verdant soil,
And watch his garden grow.
And now he tills another spot,
A beauty spot, I know.
He plows where fields are always green,
With furrows straight and true.
And where the day is always bright,
And life begins anew.
But we shall miss him here on earth,
Until our day is done.
When we shall be with him again,
When our rewards are won.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather and a friend to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, Edna, his two daughters, Velma and Ruth, two sons-in-law, G. C. Welch and Darl Current and one granddaughter and husband , Anita and Edwin Jackson and three great grandchildren, Bruce, Brent and Beverly Jackson and one uncle, Sam Sawyer of Blue Springs, Mo., and a host of friends and neighbors.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services were held Friday, December 1, 1972 at 2:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Ingersoll officiating.
Music was furnished by the Men's Quartet of the Lancaster Baptist Church, with Mrs. Lena Hall at the organ.
Selections were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "The Eastern Gate."
