Ruth Current, 81, of Downing, MO, passed away August 20, 2003 at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville, MO.
The daughter of Ira and Edna (Veatch) Lonis, she was born on March 18, 1922 near Coatsville, MO.
On February 27, 1943, she was united in marriage to Darl E. Current and to this union one daughter was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Surviving are her daughter, Anita and husband, Edwin Jackson of Downing, MO; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, Bruce and Linda Jackson and children, Anthony, Dillon, Houston and Tiffany, Brent and Lori Jackson and children, Christy, Jessica and Dalton and Beverly and Rex Winn and children, Shelbey, Khelcie and Lynnedee, all of Downing, MO. Also her caregivers Judy Childress, Tillie and Charlie Bunch and her faithful little dog, Buddy, other relatives and many many friends.
She lived her entire life in Schuyler County, MO. She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1939 and from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO in 1956. She began her teaching career in the rural schools of Schuyler County. In 1949 she began teaching at Downing, MO and continued there until the new elementary school was built at Queen City, MO in 1980. She retired in 1984 but continued teaching by tutoring and giving piano lessons.
She was a faithful member of the Downing Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and played the piano for many years.
Her greatest joys were her Lord Jesus, her family, teaching, reading and music.
Funeral services were held August 23, 2003 at the Downing Baptist Church with Brent Fleshman officiating. Music was provided by Twila Mathews, pianist, and Brenda Aeschliman, soloist. Pallbearers were Bruce Jackson, Brent Jackson, Rex Winn, Linda Jackson, Lori Jackson, and Beverly Winn. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Glenwood, MO. Memorials have been established for the Downing Baptist Church. Final arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home, Lancaster, MO.
