Mr. Sawyers was born Oct. 31, 1917, in Marion, and was the son of the late Wiley G. Sawyers and Matilda Cardwell Sawyers.
He was a crane operator at Bethlehem Steel for 30 years and was a member of the Luray Christian Disciples of Christ Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
On April 29, 1945, he married Caroline who proceeded him in death. He was also proceeded in death by full brother, William "Bill" Sawyers, and full sisters, Viola Sawyers, and Frances Sawyers Poole. Also, there were three half brothers born to Wesley Greene Shown and Matilda Cardwell Shoun [her first marriage]. Those half brothers were: Jehu Bartley (J.B.) Shown, John Wesley Shown and Roy Green Shown. An additional half brother was born to Oscar Dobbins and Matilda Cardwell's second marriage, Hobart Roosevelt Dobbins.
