Joseph E. Anderson of Bellevue died March 13, 2006, at Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue. He was 79.
Mr. Anderson was born April 22, 1926, in Ong, Neb. He served in the Army field artillery during World War II in the Liberation of the Philippines from 1944 to 1946 and attained the rank of sergeant. Mr. Anderson earned a bachelor of arts degree from Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., in 1945 and received a master's degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1950. He married Betty Harris Anderson on March 17, 1951, in Hastings. He was employed by the federal government with the Social Security Administration in 1951 and came to Seattle as regional administrator for Medicare and Medicaid in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska. He retired in 1988.
Mr. Anderson was a member of the Bellevue Power Squadron, Seattle Yacht Club and Bellevue First United Methodist Church.
He was known for his wry wit that could appear at any time.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, survivors include his sons, Jerald, of Olympia and Eric, of Bellevue.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Bellevue First United Methodist Church.
