Joseph, son of Tarkel and Johanna Anderson, was born near Hessleholm, Sweden, on August 20, 1872. At the age of ten years, he in company with friends left the homeland and came to Nebraska where he made his home near Ong, with an aunt, Mrs. Nels Peterson. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith when a young lad.

For several years he farmed north of Ong. Following this he engaged in the banking business for many years in later year maintaining an insurance and real estate business.

On May 2, 1925, he was united in marriage to Maude E. Nelson. To this union one son, Joseph Eugene, was born.

After a lingering illness he passed away at the family home on the morning of August 12, 1946, having reached the age of 73 years, 11 months and 22 days. During his long illness his greatest concern was always for others.

He is survived by his wife and son, two brothers and a sister in Sweden and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 14, 1946, at 2:00 p.m., at the Ong Methodist church (sic) with the Rev. S. W. Longacre in charge. The songs, "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Abide With Me" were sung by Mrs. Herschel Gowen, Mrs. Will Herrick, Mrs. Chas. Rudd and Mrs. Harry Wight. Mrs. Herschel Gowen sang a solo, "Crossing the Bar." Mrs. Ralph McCloughan accompanied the singers.

Pallbearers were: Joe Munsel, Martin Hokom, Chas. Rudd, Harry Wight, Will Herrick and Ferd Olson.

Burial was made in the Ong cemetery (sic).
