RICHARD SUTTON "DICK" BARTHOLOMEW

Dick Bartholomew, 83, of Arroyo Grande, California, went home to our Lord, February 13, 2010 after a heroic battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease.


Dick was born in Maricopa, California November 27, 1926. He was the oldest son of Harry Sutton Bartholomew and Jesslyn Perry Bartholomew. The family moved to Taft, California where Dick was a graduate of Taft Union High School in the class of 1944. He was a proud member of the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 and the Navy held a place in his heart through his entire life. He worked for Atlantic Richfield Corporation (ARCO) for 41 years and took great pride in his work. In his free time he built several home and did numerous remodels for friends and family.
Dick was a member of numerous organizations including the Exchange Club, the Petroleum Club and the ELKS Lodge. He had a great love of fishing especially trout fishing and also enjoyed quail hunting, horseback riding and working cattle. The family has great comfort in knowing that while spending time with his friend Bobby Uvalle, Dick received Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior.


Dick Bartholomew married Vera Henderson on May 8, 1947 and they have been devoted to each other for over 62 years. They raised their children in Taft and New Cuyama, California before retiring to the coastal town of Arroyo Grande.


He is survived by one brother Don and his wife Diane Bartholomew of Kahului, Maui, Hawaii, two children, his son Gary Bartholomew of Santa Maria, California, and his daughter Trudi and her husband Ed Callaway of Ventucopa, California. Five grandchildren Bryan and his wife Julie Callaway of New Cuyama, California, Bruce and his wife Valerie Callaway of Nipomo, California, Eric and his wife Summer Callaway of Cuyama, California, Cari Bartholomew of Los Angeles, California and Kristi Bartholomew of Los Angeles, California as well as twelve great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.


He is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Jesslyn Bartholomew and his son Robert Bartholomew.


The family invites his friends to graveside services at Westside District Cemetery in Taft, California on February 25, 2010 at 1:00 pm. followed by a time of food and remembrance.
