Korean Campaign 1871 Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the US Marine Corps at New York and served as a Private. His citation reads "On board the USS Colorado during the capture of Korean forts, 11 June 1871. Fighting courageously in hand-to-hand combat, Owens was badly wounded by the enemy during the action".
