Burrell, Martha Ann
24 Nov. 1838 – 04 May 1888
Martha Ann Burrell, wife of Mr. John Burrell, died at her home in Mary Ann Township May the 4th, 1888, aged 49 years, 5 months and 10 days. She was the mother of eleven children, and leaves a husband and ten children and one grand child to mourn her loss. She had been afflicted for about eight years with consumption, and was confined to her bed the most of the last six months. She had revived within the last few weeks so that she was able to walk about the house.
On Monday before the Friday on which she died, she walked out in the yard and back with a little assistance to get back to the house. She was a good wife, a kind and loving mother, an obliging neighbor, and was a friend to all that knew her, and was loved and is sadly missed by the family.
The deceased united with the Methodist Church at Miles Chapel, January 20, 1874. During her sickness she bore her suffering with Christian fortitude and calmness and often spoke of her desire to leave this world for her future home. The funeral took place on Sunday, conducted by the United Brethren minister, Rev. Mr. Edwards. The text was 15 chapter, 55 verse of 1st Corinthians. The interment was at the Rocky Fork church. There we laid her by the side of her little four year old daughter, Mary, who was laid away nearly four years before. There we left them, side by side, to rest in peace, and to await the final resurrection. We desire to extend our heartfelt thanks to all who in any measure contributed to the comfort of our beloved mother during her sickness and death. May God bless them all, is our prayer.
