Maria Ragland Davis, 50, an associate professor of biology, was one of three professors killed on Friday, February 12, 2010 in the tragic shooting at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. She had been with the University since 2002.
Mrs. Davis was raised in the church and was a member of the Plymouth United Church of Christ in Detroit, Michigan. Her religious upbringing deepened her faith in and love for the Lord. She demonstrated her faith in her daily life through her commitment to her family, friends, students and colleagues. Mrs. Davis was an active church member wherever she lived and attended several churches in the Huntsville area.
Maria is survived by her husband, Sammie Lee Davis, Sr.; their three children, Sammie Lee, Jr. Davis, Latasha Tamika Davis, and Melissa Ann Davis; a brother, Roderick J. Ragland; a nephew and niece, aunts, sister-in-laws, and a host of other nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and colleagues.
She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 20, 2010, at the Progressive Union Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Bobby Sledge and Pastor Cecilia Adams officiating.
