Source: 1880 Watauga Co., NC censusJENNIE RAY AND DESCENDANTS 474 Jennie was born a Coffey and married William (Bill) Ray from Ashe County around the Elk Knob area. Jennie and Bill had children Nancy, John, Etta, Mollie, Jerry, Lela, and Lizzie.Bill and his son John took Granny Ray to Wyoming during the goldrush days to make their fortune. When this did not work out,Granny Ray and some of the smaller children came back to North Carolina and she lived out her life.As a child I had lots of blonde curls and Granny Ray was always asking for a curl. A cousin and I decided to grant her wish and he gave me a hair cut. Needless to say, we were both soundlys panked. Bill and John stayed in the West and are buried there.John lived around the Jackson, Wyoming area and worked as a guide in the Park and surrounding area.Nancy Ray married R. Farthing Edmisten. Their history will be found in part under Harrison Edmisten. In 1976 I walked over the Jackson area trying to find someone who would know where my great-uncle John might have worked or lived. On his visit back here he had fascinated me with stories about the West. The lives of the Browns, Norris, Hayes, Rays, Coffeys, Greens, and Edmistens are so intermingled, you can almost read one and know the history of all.Sources: Family Bible and family records.- Margaret H. Norris
Ken Phillips added: William Ray died near Diamondville, Wyoming shortly after moving to Wyoming. William is buried in the South Lincoln Cemetery in Dimondville.
