The Rev. Reuben Coffey, whose funeral services were conducted by Rev. O. A. Monroe at Sardis church on the first Sabbath in this month, was no doubt the oldest minister of the gospel - and perhaps the oldest citizen of Caldwell county.
He became an "ambassador for Christ" in the Missionary Baptist church at the age of 24 years, and departed this life after he had reached four score and ten years and one month.
