Charles Culberson Bogan, Jr. was born June 8, 1917 in McLean, Texas to Charles C. (Cub) Bogan and Thelma Beall Bogan.

C.C., as he was called then, attended the McLean schools and graduated from high school in 1932 where he played football and played in the band.

He then attended McMurry College in Abilene for two years, playing football there also. While at McMurry he met a shy brown-eyed girl, Margaret E. Fisher, from Canadian, Texas, who stole his heart away.

The economics of the time caused C.C. to return to the Panhandle and work for John Haynes as a distributor for Gulf Oil Co. in Pampa, Texas. He and Margaret were married Dec. 1937.

When World War II broke out, the 24-year-old father had an opportunity to work at the Consolidated Air Factory, which later became Vought aeronautics and part of General Dynamics now, drafting changes for the B24 bombers. The family moved to Ft. Worth in 1941.

At the close of the war in 1945, C.C. came back to the Panhandle to go into business with his older cousin, Creed Bogan, and the O'Keefe family. Creed and Chuck ran the Borger office of the Panhandle Insurance Agency, which had offices in Amarillo and in Pampa.

Chuck stayed with PIA until they were bought by Marsh McLennan in 1980. He stayed as a local consultant until 1983, when he retired.

Mr. Bogan was well known in the Panhandle, he was on the Borger City Council from 1971 to 1976. He served as mayor from 1974 until 1976. He was again on the City Council from 1992 until 1996. He was director of the Housing Authority for the City of Borger during his last term on the council.

He was a longtime member of the Borger Kiwanis Club and the Borger Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the Wesley Untied [sic] Methodist Church in Borger, where he held several positions through the years.

Mr. Bogan was an avid sportsman who spent many years bird hunting and fly fishing. Upon his retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively to other parts of the world. After the death of his wife, he remained a Borger resident until he moved to Dallas in late 1997. He died Monday, Jan. 4, at the C.C. Young Retirement Home in Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his only brother, Joe, in 1968; his parents; his wife of 56 years, Margaret, in 1993; and his only son, David Charles, in 1995.

He is survived by his daughters, Linda Mooter and Kenneth of Dallas, Sandra Sebren and L.T. of Tomball, Texas and Donna Bogan of Alice, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Bogan of Lake Forest, Ill.; a sister, Ann Coker of Turkey, Texas; six grandchildren, Kristi Cross and Mike of Mesquite, Lisa Segerson and Philip of Waco, Michael Mooter and Sally of Dallas, Mark McAdoo of Ft. Worth, Scott McAddo and Colleen of Houston, and Charles Bogan, III of Lake Forest, Ill. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

A funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Borger. Memorials may be made to the Welsey [sic] United Methodist Church in Borger or to the Alzheimers Association.
