Mrs. Cora Rowsey Chittum, 77, of Buena Vista died Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Stinnett of Buena Vista. She was born in Rockbridge County Sept. 29, 1893, the daughter of the late Lafayette Rowsey and Willie Stinnett Rowsey. She was the wife of the late James Luther Chittum.
Also surviving are three other daughters, Mrs. Nellie Ogden, Mrs. Evelyn Southers and Mrs. Frances Williams of Buena Vista; four sons, MacDonald Chittum of Virginia Beach, Hunter Chittum and Everett Chittum of Alexandria, and Chester Chittum of Raphine; two sisters, Mrs. Hettie Thacker of Buena Vista and Mrs. Mary Eggleston of Hopewell; two brothers, Clarence Rowsey of Hamilton, Ohio and Carl Rowsey of Buena Vista; 37 grand-children, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Dennis Mitchell conducted a funeral service this afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Buena Vista. Burial was in Neriah Cemetery, near Buena Vista.
