James D. Walker, 66, of Abbeville, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Dorminy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, April 18, at Bethlehem Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Conner, Rev. Max Rodgers and Rev. Michael Slaven Officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9, Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Walker was born July 11, 1942 in Fitzgerald to the late John Carey and Lessie Mae Hunter Walker. He was a farmer and lived in the community most his life, attending Abbeville High School. Mr. Walker was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, former Training Union Director and coached Women's softball. He was an avid hunter and a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Betty Jo Walker of Abbeville; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki & Jay Whitley of Fitzgerald; sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip & Marjorie Walker of Fitzgerald, Curtis & Melissa Walker of Byron and John Walker of Houston, TX; 9 grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue Adkinson of Fitzgerald, Shelby & Warren Tanner of Jacksonville, FL, June & Don Morris of Fitzgerald, Carol & Harold McKie of Abbeville, Lynn Sanford and Judy & Arnie Nelms both of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Robert, Earl, Mack, John Samuel and Franklin Walker and 2 sisters, Louise May and Exa Bennett.
