Truman George Chapman, 80, was born May 10, 1929, in Madill to Martha (Morrow) Chapman and Thomas Chapman and passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at his home in Hobart.
He was a farmer most of his life and had worked some as a plumber. He enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren who were his life and whom he loved to spoil. Other activities Mr. Chapman enjoyed were deer hunting, fishing and camping from which the family has many pleasant memories. Among his other favorite things, were gardening, growing flowers, feeding and watching birds and one pesky squirrel which lived nearby.
Truman made his first guitar when he was 16 years old from wooden crates and other pieces of wood and taught himself to play the instrument. He made two recordings of his music.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 52 years, Odean; a son-in-law, Larry Edwards; one grandson, Troy Hooker; two great-grandchildren, Dustin Pope and Jordan McKayla Graumann; and one great-great-grandchild, Courtney Lyn Chapman; and nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his two sons, Truman G. Chapman Jr. and wife Mandy of Nowata, and Ray Chapman and wife Ruby of Lone Wolf; two daughters, Deborah Hooker of Albuquerque, N.M., and Peggy Edwards of Blair; one brother, Ernest Chapman and wif Dixie of Visalia, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and four great- great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at People's Funeral Home Chapel in Lone Wolf, officiated by the Rev. Billy Ray Hudson, Pastor, Trinity Holiness Church of Blair. Burial will be at Retrop Cemetery under the direction of People's Co-operative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf.
