Herman, as he was called, was the son of Johann Andreas & Fredericka (Siefert) Hageman. He was one of eight children and came to America as a child. Stories told him running through the forest to tell his Grandparents Sieferts, they were leaving for America. They stuffed money in his jacket for them. They had disowned Fredericka for marrying the gardner. The Sieferts lived in a castle and were quite weatlthy. . as the family stories have been told. Herman married Bertha Cornell in 1886 and they had eleven children: Louisa, Ezra, Amanda, Eda, Selma, Marie, Alvin, Emma, Esther, Fredamae, and Lillie.

Herman Hageman, who would have been 73 the 22nd of this month, passed away Saturday about noon at his home in Ithaca, after a long illness. He was born in Saxony, Germany, and came here as a boy in 1872. He is survived by his widow, who was Bertha Cornell, one son, Ezra, and eight daughters, Louise and Eda of Ithaca, Selma of Wahoo, Mrs. Ed Meierhenry of Arlington, Mrs. Rudolph Hanke and Mrs. E. B. Wagner of Ceresco, Mrs. Harold Thompson of Marengo, IL, and Frieda attending Peru. One daughter died in infancy and one son in young manhood after a long illness. There are eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Richard & John Hageman also survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Ebenezer Evangelical Church with interment in the Zion Church yard.
