Rev J R “Rex” Naylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Naylor of Clarendon, was killed when the plane in which he was riding crashed near San Antonio. Three other occupants of the plane were killed. Rhea Mitchell, his brother, George Mitchell and George Turner, Jr., the brother-in-law of Rhea Mitchell, all of Lockney. The four men were on their way to Port Isbell, where they planned to meet the Mitchell's parents, Mr. and Ms. T.B. Mitchell, who had recently returned from a vacation to Cuba. The party had planned a fishing trip before returning to Lockney.

Rev J R “Rex” Naylor, 33, was a native of Donley County. He had been in the ministry for 12 years and had been pastor of the First Baptist Church in Lockney since 1952.

Services for Rev J R “Rex” Naylor were held at his church at Lockney officiated by Rev. Sid Martin, Rev. B.J. Martin, and Rev. Howard E. Scott.

Survived by his wife; two children - Rudy Naylor and Janice Naylor; his parents - Mr. and Mrs. Carl Naylor; three brothers - Wayne Naylor, Calvin Naylor, Joe Tom Naylor; one sister - Mrs. Melvin Vick.
