Mrs. E.J. Vollintine leased her mineral rights on her land for oil and gas exploration in 1906. The first oil well drilled on her property was in 1917.

Mrs. E. J. Volentine, 82, died at her home. She had been an invalid for about two years and had been tenderly cared for by her adopted son, Oscar Grimes, in her late afflictions. Deceased was the widow of Dr. I.P. Volentine, a prominent physician in Palo Pinto and Parker counties for several years, who died in Weatherford several years ago. She moved with the family of her father, Mark Dalton, Sr. to Palo Pinto County in 1857, and embraced the Christian religion early in life, and joined the Baptist church, living a consistent and devoted member thereof until she was called "up yonder."
Survived by an adopted son - Oscar Grimes of Palo Pinto; one daughter - Mrs. A.P. Bitter of Burnet, four brothers - Will, Bob, and Lee Dalton; one sister - Mrs. Frank Herron of Graham.
Funeral services were held at the Baptist church of Palo Pinto conducted by Rev. Alexander, of Mineral Wells, after which the remains were taken to Weatherford and laid to rest beside her husband.
