Catherine was the wife of Bernard "Barney" Lefers, Sr. (1859-1906) and the daughter of Gerhard Belker and Mary (Oenning) Belker. She married Bernard on November 22, 1881 in Adams County, Illinois and they had nine children together including: Bernard "Barney" Jr., George H., Mary, Charles, Clara, Arthur, Alfred and Louisa Catherine Lefers. Catherine's son, George, died of pulmonary tuberculosis in 1904 when he was nineteen years old. Her husband died of the same disease in 1906. Several years later, her daughter Louisa (age 11) and son, Charles (age 27) would also die from tuberculosis. Catherine died from
