ELKTON – Ervin Elmer Pence, 95, of Elkton, went to his heavenly home, Jan. 24,
2015. He was born Sept. 8, 1919 in Elkton, and was the son of the late Elmer and
Bertha Dovel Pence. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother,
Henry Pence; and a sister, Ruth Pence Lam.

Ervin was a longtime member of the Elkton Pentecostal Church, where he had
served as Elder. He served our country as a Sergeant in the U.S. States Army
during World War II, and was a member of the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292. He
was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local #45. He
previously worked as a barber, and continued to cut hair for friends, and in
local nursing homes. He worked in area quarries and was a welder at the JMU
Steam Plant until he retired. He was honored by the Frazier Quarry in Elkton on
April 8, 2013, to pull the first shot on opening day.

His wife of 68 years, Dorothy Thomas Pence, survives. They were married July 31,
1946. Also surviving is a son, Donald Ray Pence (Carolyn) of Stuarts Draft;
daughters, Patricia Meadows of Mooresville, North Carolina, Sue Armbruster
(Harry), and Sharon Kay Shank (Richard), all of Elkton; grandchildren, Lori
Meadows Bisso (Larry), Amy Meadows Carpenter (Brad), Holly Meadows Simmers
(Clark), Todd Young, Suzanne Young Reed (Bobby), Mary Armbruster, Joe Pence,
Adam Pence, Larry (Chip) Alger II (Michele), Kara Shank Hill (Bill), Heather
Huntley (Scott), and Amanda Williams; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise
Cunningham (Olis) of Elkton; brothers, Clyde Pence (Ruth), and Theodore Pence
(Doris) all of Elkton.

Pastor Travis Hensley and Elder Eddie Byers will officiate the funeral service
at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 at the Elkton Pentecostal Church. Visitation
will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the church. Friends
may also call at the home of his daughter, Sharon at any time. Interment will
follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg, with military rites by
the Gooden Brothers VFW Post 9292.
