Sarah was the oldest child of Samuel Evans and Mary Ann Richardson, born in New York state. Sarah's death certificate records her parents as Samuel and Mary Evens of New York.

Sarah married William Edward Cooper. Her sister, Lucina Evans, married William's brother, James H Cooper. Both James and William Edward were born in New Jersey and were the sons of James and Agnes Cooper of Clay, Onondaga County, New York.

William Edward (who was called by his middle name, Edward) and Sarah lived in Salina, Onondaga Co, New York in 1850. In the 1860 Census they were living in Plymouth, Rock County, Wisconsin, removing to Minnesota soon thereafter. Edward and Sarah died in Black Hammer, Houston County, Minnesota.

They had at least five children: William Edward, Henry C, Sarah Caroline, Silas Jackson, and Mary Agnes.
William Edward and his wife Catherine relocated to Nebraska. Henry and Silas Jackson relocated to Arkansas.
