Robbie Lee Akins was born on November 2, 1930 to Robert "Lee" Akins and Kate Crozier Akins in the Piney Community of Adair County, Oklahoma. She departed this life on Monday, February 8, 2010 at the age of 79 years. She lived her entire life in Piney and Stilwell. Robbie became "Sammie" when she was only a few days old and most people thought that was her real name. Sammie grew up in Piney doing all the chores that farm children of the 1930's and 40's did – milking cows, gathering eggs, mowing lawns, harvesting fruit and working with animals of all kinds. Named after her father, she was a true tomboy and she never learned to enjoy cooking. Sammie liked coffee with friends and playing bingo. She began playing the guitar and singing at an early age, Sammie enjoyed music throughout her life. Her tastes in music included Country, Bluegrass, Gospel and Southern Gospel. One of her favorite groups was "The Singing Cooke Family". She was baptized and joined the First Christian Church in Westville, Oklahoma in the late 1960's. Sammie worked at Stilwell Foods/Flowers Industries until her retirement. Those preceding her in death are her parents: Lee and Kate Akins, two sisters: Opal Little and Ruby Akins, two brothers-in-law: Lelon Little and Grady Williams. Survivors include a sister: Jewel Williams, a niece: Ellen Workman and husband Ernie, nephew: Grady Williams, Jr., great nephews and niece: Nathan Workman and wife Tasha, Jessica Workman, Jerry Williams, Cody Williams and a great-great niece: Areah Rose Williams, a host of extended family and friends also survive her, including the staff and residents of Stilwell Senior Housing. A very private and independent person, Sammie pre-planned her services with Roberts/Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Graveside services with Kevin Spurlock of First Christian Church, Stilwell, Oklahoma were held Friday, February 12, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Stilwell City Cemetery.
