09/05/1934 - Clearfield Loses Fine Citizen In Death of Nathan J. Pletcher - Clearfield lost another fine citizen last night in the death of Nathan J Pletcher, aged 79, who died at his home, 610 South Second street, at 7:30 o'clock. Throughout his long and useful life Mr. Pletcher was known as a substantial and highly respected citizen and a good neighbor. His passing will be keenly regretted by a wide circle of intimate friends. Funeral services will be held at the Pletcher residence on Friday afternoon, September 7, at 4:00 in charge of Rev. I. A. Welliver of Trinity M. E. Church. Interment in Hillcrest Cemetery later.

09/15/1934 - Nathan J. Pletcher, who passed away at his home at 610 South Second street, Clearfield, on September 4th, was born November 24, 1858, at Howard, Pa., the son of Jacob and Matilda Pletcher. He received his education in the Howard Township Schools, and worked on his father's farm until the age of 21. He then started as an apprentice carpenter with Henry Holter, contracter and cabinet maker of Howard. Completing the learning of his trade, he did general contracting for a number of years, then entered the wagon works at Mill Hall, where he worked for 15 years. He then entered the employ of the N.Y.C. Railroad Company, and helped to build tipples and trestles at Clearfield, the Viaduct and other places. Mr. Pletcher came to Clearfield in the fall of 1905 as mill superintendent of the Clearfield Millwork & Lumber Co, which position he held until his recent death. He was married in 1883 to Ida Caldwell and to them one daughter Maude was born. She was a teacher in the Clearfield Schools at the time of her death which occurred in 1922. Nathan Pletcher was a Christian gentleman who lived and practiced his beliefs every day of his life. He was a skilled workman, a loving husband and father and stood in the highest esteem with his friends who were legion and his neighbors who knew him as a helpful, kindly and just Christian man. If right living and thinking, earnest endeavor and service to others merit success, then Mr. Pletcher was a most successful man. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, relatives and large circle of friends.
