She was born February 4, 1914 at Colony, Knox County, MO, to Joseph Edward and Elsie Thrasher Dorsey.
She was a graduate of Gorin High School, Class of 1935.
She married George William Laverty March 15, 1941 at Norfolk, Virginia. He died January 22, 1957.
Carmelita was a waitress at the Toy & Bams Restaurant and Keith's Café. She also worked as a clerk at Gardine Drug Store. She was a member of First Christian Church in Memphis, MO, and the Rutledge Eastern Star #343 of Rutledge, MO. She entered the Clark County Nursing Home in the fall of 2001.
Survivors include one daughter, Celina M. Erickson and husband Oren of Rutledge, MO; two grandchildren, Karen Erickson Arnold and husband Jeff of Kahoka, MO and Roger Erickson and wife Paige of Stigler, OK; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Erick Arnold and Adam Erickson; one sister-in-law, Madaline Dorsey of Fort Madison, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Merton and Orville Dorsey; five half brothers, Raymond, Leland, Robert, Rollie and Ira Dorsey; two sisters, Ruby Pearl Dorsey and Cordonna Cunningham; and two grandchildren, George and Robert Erickson.
An Eastern Star Service was given by the Rutledge Eastern Star #343 of Rutledge, MO.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 29 in the First Christian Church at Memphis with Brother Jack Sumption officiating. Ann Luther was the organist and vocalist was John Spray. Burial was in the Memphis Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Cancer or Heart Research. Casketbearers were Jeff Arnold, Bill Epperson, John Spray, Sandy Hardy, Lisa Altum, and Floyd Eden. Memphis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
